Scholarship Description

Cornerstone Charitable Scholarship Trust targets disadvantaged high school and post high school graduates across the State of Arkansas, under age 25 and eligible applicants with funding resulting from the Mauldin vs. Arkansas State Hospital Consent Decree, United States District Court No. LR-C-8777. To be eligible to apply, applicants must: be African-American; demonstrate financial need; have completed their high school diploma at the time of application; plan to attend an accredited university, college, vocational school and be enrolled in or accepted as a student at an accredited university, college, or vocational school; and, be between 17 to 25 years old. Dollar amounts for this scholarship will vary.

A generous and gifted professional, Loretta Watson felt that she wanted to do more to help deserving students who, although having academic potential and exemplary leadership qualities, were less likely to continue their education because of environmental risk or financial hardship. Through the establishment of the Cornerstone Charitable Scholarship Trust, Inc., she sought to help future generations of deserving people with roots in Arkansas obtain a quality education.
