Scholarship Description

The Animal Welfare Institute Scholarship fund is designed to support high school seniors in the United States who have shown a commitment to animal welfare and intend to pursue careers aimed at reducing animal suffering and protecting vulnerable species. This scholarship, provided by the Animal Welfare Institute, not only recognizes past achievements in animal advocacy but also aims to foster future leaders in the field. Successful applicants will receive a $3,000 scholarship and a subscription to the AWI Quarterly magazine.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Open to high school seniors in the United States
  • Demonstrated commitment to animal welfare through volunteer work or advocacy
  • Intention to pursue a career focused on reducing animal suffering and protecting species
  • Requirement of two letters of recommendation

Application Process

  1. Submit two letters of recommendation: one from a school staff member and another from someone aware of your animal welfare efforts
  2. Ensure recommendations highlight your commitment to animal welfare and academic abilities
  3. Apply between December 1st and March 16th (11:30 p.m. ET)
  4. Prepare to provide confirmation of college or university acceptance if selected as a finalist

A committee from the Animal Welfare Institute will review applications and choose recipients who have a strong track record of advocating for animals and an impressive and clear plan to continue working to reduce the human-inflicted suffering of animals. This committee will also review and confirm the required letters of recommendation.
