Since our founding in 1998, Scholarships.com has had one goal: to help students
find the money they need to get a college education. Over the last several years,
we've become the largest independent online free college scholarship search and
financial aid information resource available. Our mission is to assist students and their
families in finding college scholarships and to help them explore a variety of valuable
financial aid opportunities.
Scholarships.com, the Internet's leading scholarship search service and financial
aid information resource, helps students make the decisions that shape their lives:
researching and finding college financial aid, choosing a college and paying for
college. And it's all free.
The Scholarships.com Difference
The Scholarships.com difference lies in our database and our proprietary scholarship
search engine which uses a personal profile to identify and match the scholarships
that are most relevant to each student. Our regularly updated proprietary database
allows students to search 2.7 million college scholarships and grants worth over
$19 billion.
Scholarships.com makes the search process both quick and easy by using its unique
filtering process and sophisticated relevancy algorithm to sort and rank scholarship
awards based on each user’s individual characteristics. Rather than rummage through a list
of irrelevant scholarships and grants, students can instantly view awards that fit
their profile and therefore offer the highest likelihood of success.
Each Scholarships.com user answers a detailed questionnaire, providing information
about their academics, extracurricular activities, and family background. We then
use this data to generate a customized list of grant and scholarship opportunities
that match the student’s qualifications. At the heart is Scholarships.com's industry-leading
scholarship database — the most comprehensive and accurate compilation of national,
community, and college-specific scholarships and grants available anywhere.
Recognized by 16,752 high schools and 6,951 colleges and universities nationwide,
Scholarships.com is among the most trusted and well-known free resources for students
pursuing a college education. We are also one of the most comprehensive: on top
of our free college scholarship search, Scholarships.com offers visitors much more.
Our college search provides detailed information on colleges and universities nationwide,
featuring everything from cost of attendance to crime statistics. The articles in
our expansive resource library provide advice and information on a wide range of
topics related to applying to, attending, and paying for college. Online tools help
students stay organized with email reminders, favorites lists, and personalized
content to help them succeed.
In January 2009, Scholarships.com became the first scholarship search website to
adopt the Scholarship Data Standard, an open data standard advocated by the
National Scholarship Providers Association and developed by the
Michael and Susan Dell Foundation. The Scholarship Data Standard allows
students to create an application file containing commonly requested information,
save it to their computer and use it to complete later
scholarship searches and applications on any website that supports the standard.
We strive to remain at the forefront of innovations in the scholarship world, and
constantly work to enhance our visitor experience.
Through our website and business, Scholarships.com demonstrates our dedication to
connecting students and families with the resources they need to pay for college.
We are proud to be part of a national community of students, parents, educators,
and scholarship providers with a commitment to helping students realize their dreams
of higher education.
Scholarships.com as a Financial Aid Provider
In addition to helping students find information about scholarships and grants,
Scholarships.com makes its own financial aid contribution by administering its own
scholarship competitions. We currently offer users fourteen distinct college-funding
opportunities worth a total of $18,000. Winners of the
Scholarships.com Resolve To Evolve Essay Scholarship and the
Scholarships.com Area of Study College Scholarships will be one step
closer to achieving their educational and career goals, not to mention paying for
their college education. For more information about these scholarships,

A Word of Caution
Beware of services that ask for money, offer misleading information, or bombard
you with irrelevant advertising. These can include:
Fee-based Sites that claim to offer exclusive access to scholarships,
or offer to sell you a list of scholarship providers. They are built on publicly-available
information and are not likely to offer you opportunities unavailable from free
search sites. In particular, watch out for services that "guarantee" cash scholarships
for a fee and ones that charge users for search results. Scholarship scammers bilk
their average victim out of nearly $200, according to the FTC.
Aggregation Sites that add together data from multiple sources
without acknowledging the massive amounts of overlap or offering any real way to
narrow the field to a usable level. Our difference isn't limited to the amount of
cash hypothetically available; it also lies in the way we quickly and usefully find
the scholarship opportunities most relevant to you.
Ad-laden Sweepstakes and Contest Sites that are light on scholarships
and heavy on advertisements. These sites will gather your personal information and
use it to bombard you with marketing proposals. They use scholarship offers to hook
you, but the rewards are small and few. Such sites are marked by numerous advertisements
positioned on each side, and sometimes right in the middle, of the "scholarship"
description.
