District of Columbia Tuition Assistance Grant Program (DCTAG)

DCTAG was created by the US Congress in 1999 through the District of Columbia College Access Act; and later amended by the DC College Access Improvement Act of 2002 for the purpose of expanding higher education choices for college-bound residents of the District of Columbia.

Applicant must be:

  • A US citizen or have eligible non-citizenship status.
  • A District of Columbia resident 12 months prior to the first year enrolled in college and through the tenure in college.
  • A high school graduate or a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) recipient.
  • 24 years of age or younger before the application deadline.
  • In a non-default status with federal student loans.
  • Accepted for enrollment in, or working towards, a first-time, undergraduate degree on, at least, a part-time basis (6 credit hours). Professional or graduate-level degree candidates are not eligible.

District of Columbia Adoption Scholarship (DCAS)

DCAS was authorized by the Adoption Voucher Act of 2001. The Act appropriated a federal payment of $1 million to establish a scholarship fund for the post-secondary education of District of Columbia children who were adopted on or after October 1, 2001; and/or children who lost one or both parents as a result of the events of September 11, 2001.

Washington, DC Hoop Dreams Scholarship Fund

The Hoop Dreams Scholarship Fund sponsors an annual three-on-three basketball tournament and community festival. This fundraising event provides college scholarships, internships, and mentorship to students from Washington, DC. Over 1,800 scholarships worth over $3 million have been awarded since the program’s inception in 1996.

AFCEA District of Columbia Scholarship Program

The Washington, DC chapter of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association gives college scholarships to eligible applicants that are studying technology, math and science. Since May 1989, $1,681,000 has been committed to 264 students in the DC metro area. The $7,000 two year scholarship is open to high school seniors entering four year colleges and universities. The $3,500 one year scholarship program is open to students leaving two-year community colleges to attend four year degree-granting programs. Eligible fields of study are Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Management Information Systems.
