Maine Scholarships
Maine scholarships may not be as plentiful as California or Texas scholarships,
but they are out there, if you look for them. You should really consider letting
us find scholarships for you, though, based upon your entire profile, rather than
searching specifically for scholarships based on a single criteria. Scholarships.com
can help you find information about scholarships especially created for those living
in Maine at the same time we look for any other scholarship opportunities for which
you might qualify. The college
scholarships below will give you just a small sample of the opportunities
that may be found at Scholarships.com. To get the full benefit of our free services
and for additional information about Maine scholarships and awards based on different
search criteria, you should conduct a free college
scholarship search at Scholarships.com.
This scholarship was established by the late Florence E. Dunn — a Colby graduate
(Class of 1892), a longtime professor of English, and for many years a trustee.
Dunn, who died in 1964, designated in her will that, following the death of her
last surviving individual beneficiary, Colby would receive the remainder of her
trust. She directed the College to establish a special scholarship fund, with first
preference to Maine students who needed financial help to attend Colby. Please
do not request information or an application for this scholarship unless you can
show financial need.
When the trust came to the College it had grown to $1.6 million. That enables Colby
to establish, in perpetuity, a full scholarship for a member of each class to be
designated Dunn Scholars.

The Mitchell Scholarships were established in 1994 by U.S. Senator George J. Mitchell.
One of Senator Mitchell’s highest priorities is to expand and improve opportunities
for the education of young people in Maine. The Mitchell Institute awards a scholarship
to a graduating senior from every public high school in Maine.
The scholarship award is in the amount of up to $4,000 for students pursuing a four-year
degree and $2,000 for students pursuing a two-year degree.

Grants from the Barking Foundation are available only to Maine residents. You may
attend college anywhere, but you must have been a Maine resident for at least 4
years. You can be a full or part time student, and you can be in any phase of your
education. The awards are based on scholarship, need and an essay. The scholarship
amount is $3000, and you may receive it twice, but you must apply each time.

in a high-wage, in-demand field and must currently earn less than 200% of poverty-level
income.
