A great scholarship opportunity for students enrolling at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) has extended through the end of Black History Month. The Future of Stem Scholars Initiative (FOSSI) will award 150 scholarships worth $40,000 over four years as well as provide mentoring and internship opportunities to select winners. The extended deadline for this scholarship is March 1st.

The FOSSI scholarship is administered by HBCU Week Foundation, Inc., a non-profit organization that encourages attendance at HBCUs by providing scholarships and offering support to HBCU students to obtain careers post-graduation. Support for the scholarship is provided by STEM-focused groups including the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and the American Chemistry Council.

Applicants to the FOSSI scholarship must be current high school students who plan to pursue studies at a HBCU in a field associated with STEM, mechanics or manufacturing. The scholarship is particularly interested in students studying chemistry, biology, computer science, math, physics, and engineering fields such as chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and civil engineering. Merit and financial need will both be considered; applicants must be on track to graduate high school with a minimum 3.0 GPA.
