Scholarship Description

The purpose of The Hyacinth Scarlett Music Memorial Scholarship is to honor Hyacinth's achievements and dedication to those around her. Classically trained as an opera singer, her love of music translated as a choir director (of her church Victory Place International Worship Center and of the Jamaica Nurses' Association of Florida Choir) and for many years as a pianist and music director for the local Salvation Army. This is offered to one high school senior and one current college student annually.

The scholarship is awarded annually. In order to apply, you must: Be an undergraduate or graduate student majoring in nursing, music, or related field; Write a one-page double-spaced essay demonstrating how you have used music (such as singing in a choir, playing an instrument, doing music therapy, etc.) to contribute to your community; Have a 3.0 overall GPA; Have one letter of recommendation from a professor or director that can attest to their work in the community; Submit a transcript (unofficial accepted).

Over the span of her over 30 years as a registered nurse, Hyacinth Scarlett's work also included a degree in business, love of music, and desire to help others. This scholarship offers awards to students in recognition of exceptional music performance and academic achievement. The scholarship recipient would embody the qualities that Hyacinth exemplified.
