Theodore Gordon Flyfishers, Inc. Founders Fund Scholarship
The Theodore Gordon Flyfishers, Inc. and the Environmental Consortium of Hudson Valley Colleges & Universities are pleased to announce this year's Theodore Gordon Flyfishers, Inc. Founders Fund Scholarship. This merit scholarship is offered annually, in the name of the TGF founders, to a single recipient who has demonstrated excellence and outstanding dedication in a field of study that falls within an environmental field of a school or department.
This scholarship is available to students enrolled, and who will continue to be enrolled in a full-time four-year undergraduate degree (junior standing or higher as of fall) or graduate degree program at a member institution of the Environmental Consortium of Hudson Valley Colleges and Universities for the upcomoning academic year. It is also available to community college students in their second year who have been accepted into a four-year accredited member institution of the Environmental Consortium and will be enrolled as a junior or senior in the award year (as of the upcoming fall semester).
The eligible applicant’s major shall be in an area of environmental studies such as, but not limited to, ecology, hydrology, conservation biology, natural resource management, zoology, or environmental law and policy. Based on a 4.0 scale, the applicant shall demonstrate merit with a current 3.5 GPA in the environmental concentration courses and an overall minimum 3.0 GPA.
Having received a TGF scholarship in the past does not prohibit future eligibility. A student may be awarded more than one consecutive TGF scholarship. However, priority will be given to applicants who have not previously received a TGF scholarship.
Complete applications and all required documents must be postmarked on or before April 2nd. If application is being hand delivered, it must be received by the Consortium office no later than 5 p.m. on April 2nd. Incomplete applications or applications postmarked after April 2nd will not be considered. No fax or email applications will be accepted. Applicants may have letters of recommendation and transcripts sent directly to the Consortium office, or, may compile all necessary materials and submit application and supporting documents in one envelope (preferred). Please note if submitting letters of recommendation with your application package; recommenders must provide you with the letter in a sealed and signed envelope.
The final selection will be judged anonymously by a selection committee. The committee’s decision shall be final. All candidates will be informed of the outcome of the selection on or about May 15th. The committee will not return submitted essays and said essays may not be submitted elsewhere until the award has been announced. The winning essay becomes the property of The Theodore Gordon Flyfishers, Inc. The winner will be expected to accept his or her award in person at the TGF Founders Fund Society Reception in the Fall (exact date to be determined) in New York, New York.
