William E. Weisel Scholarship Award

In June of 1985, the Weisel family, the Robotic Industries Association and Robotics International of SME announced the creation of the William E. Weisel Scholarship at the Society of Manufacturing Engineers Education Foundation. The Scholarship was created as a living tribute to the memory of William E. Weisel's career in manufacturing at Cincinnati Milacron.

Marie Weisel, the widow of William Weisel, is proud of the fact that the Weisel scholarship has helped students pursue their education in manufacturing. "Bill loved helping young people explore careers in manufacturing. As Director of Education Relations at Milacron, he founded the first co-op educational training for young manufacturing engineers and technologists in cooperation with the University of Cincinnati," said Marie Weisel.

Marie and her son, Walt have made a practice of contributing to the scholarship on special occasions in honor of someone or in memory of a loved one. The Weisels believe that people are appreciative of the fact that scholarships are most helpful and are proud to be a part of it.

Criteria
- Scholarship applicants must be full-time undergraduate students enrolled in an engineering or technology degree program in the United States or Canada and must be seeking a career in robotics or automated systems used in manufacturing. Consideration will be given to students who intend to apply their knowledge in the sub-specialty of medical robotics.
- Scholarship applicants must have completed a minimum of 30 college credit hours.
- Scholarship applicants must possess an overall minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
- Scholarships will be limited to United States and Canadian citizens.
