Ruby J. Darensbourg-Cook Memorial Scholarship Fund
The Ruby J. Darensbourg-Cook Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in December of 1992 by the Cook Family to honor Ms. Cook’s dedication to education and the livelihood of children.
Scholarships are provided to graduating high school seniors majoring in Education, with preference given to Elementary Education or Early Childhood Education, at an accredited Louisiana college or university.
Scholarship awards shall be used toward the following, in order of priority, tuition and fees, books and supplies, room and board, and commuting expenses up to $50 dollars per month.
Scholarship awards are $500 per semester for a maximum of eight consecutive semesters (Fall and Spring only) for a maximum scholarship award of $4,000.
To maintain the scholarship, recipients must maintain 2.5 GPA per semester/quarter and full-time status as defined by the college/university attended.
In making its decision, the Scholarship Advisory Committee will use the following criteria:
- Letters of recommendation
- High school GPA
- Standardized test scores
- Personal statement
- Extracurricular activities
All applicants will be notified by mail of the Committee’s decisions within two months of the due date.
