Merv Aubespin Scholarship
The Aubespin Scholarship is one of the awards given away each year by the American Copy Editors Society (ACES). Named after Merv Aubespin, a past chairman of the ACES Human Resources Committee and president of the National Association of Black Journalists, the Aubespin Scholarship offers aspiring copy editors the chance to afford a college education.
Students who apply for the award will also be entered to win one of four second place $1,000 awards.
Requirements:
- A list of course work relevant to copy editing
- A list of copy editing experience
- An essay of no more than 750 words describing why the applicant would make a good editor
- Two letters of recommendation
- Copies of five to ten headlines written by the applicant
- A copy of a story edited by the applicant which demonstrates their ability
Eligibility:
- Applicants must be college juniors, seniors or graduate school students in the coming fall
OR must be graduating students taking on a full-time copy editing job or internship in the coming fall
