ASTA David J. Hallissey Memorial Internship

To be eligible for the ASTA David J. Hallissey Memorial Internship, applicants must mee the following criteria:
- Citizen or permanent resident of any country
- Full-time or part-time undergraduate or full-time or part-time graduate student, enrolled in a marketing or travel and tourism program of study
- Enrolled at a college or university in the United States
- Cumulative 3.0 grade point average (GPA), or greater, on a U.S. 4.0 scale
- Pursuing a marketing degree with an interest in marketing research and also an interest in travel and tourism (preferred but not required); or a travel and tourism degree with an interest in marketing research as it relates to marketing (preferred but not required)
- Enrolled at an accredited four-year college or university, and will be entering sophomore year in the fall of the calendar year of application; or enrolled at an accredited four-year college or university, and will be entering junior year in the fall of the calendar year of application; or enrolled at an accredited four-year college or university, and will be entering senior year in the fall of the calendar year of application; or enrolled at an accredited four-year college or university, and entering any year of graduate study in the fall of the calendar year of application
- Strong written and verbal communication skills as well as interpersonal skills
- A basic understanding of Microsoft Excel (required) and knowledge of Microsoft Access and SBSS software (preferred but not required)

Required Items:
- Passport as proof of citizenship, or Alien Registration Card as proof of permanent residency
- Resume
- Evaluation and letter of recommendation from a faculty member or teacher in your field of study
- Evaluation and letter of recommendation from an industry professional you worked for; the industry must be related to your field of study
- Academic Internship Application Approval Form
- Essay: If you are a marketing student, discuss how your current program of study (or coursework) relates to the application of marketing research? Please tell us about your academic and extracurricular activities and volunteer experiences, i.e. work, internships, etc., in marketing and how they tie into your present and future goals. Mention any awards or commendations you have received relating to the marketing industry; if you are a travel and tourism student, discuss what segment of the travel and tourism industry your current program of study focuses on. What opportunities are you taking advantage of as you prepare for a career in the industry? Please tell us about your academic and extracurricular activities and volunteer experiences, i.e. work, internships, etc., in travel and tourism or marketing and how they tie into your present and future goals. Mention any awards or commendations you have received relating to the travel and tourism or hospitality industry.

**Please note this internship is for summer or fall and takes place in the Washington, D.C. area. The award will be made in two equal payments; one at the outset and other halfway through.**
