Portland Chapter AAJA Scholarships

Each year, the Asian American Journalists Association - Portland Chapter offers a scholarship of up to $2,000 to an outstanding student at the undergraduate or graduate levels. The winner is selected by the following criteria:

-Commitment to the field of journalism
-Sensitivity to Asian American issues as demonstrated by community involvement
-Journalistic ability
-Scholastic ability
-Financial need

To be eligible for the scholarship, a student must be a graduating high school senior, an undergraduate or graduate student enrolled full-time (12 or more units) in an accredited college or university during the current academic year. Students must live or attend school in Oregon or the Vancouver, Wash. area.

Applications must be postmarked by April 1. The AAJA will not accept applications via fax or electronic mail. Judges will select a winner by May. The amount of the award will depend on the field of candidates. Award must be claimed within a year.

The AAJA national office also offers $5,000, $2,000 and $1,500 scholarships and internships to students. Those awards are separate from the Portland chapter’s and require different applications.
