California Child Development Grant Program
There is no application fee for the Child Development Grant Program.
Application Deadline: June 1st, annually.
Residency: U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen, California resident.
Major/Career interest: Education, early childhood; Education, teacher.
Award may be used for: Full time or Part time study
Award may be used at: Two or Four-year college
Accreditation: School must be accredited
Designated institutions: California public or private postsecondary institutions with approved child development classes.
Applicant must select training area: Teacher; Site Supervisor; Master Teacher or Progarm Director
Nomination by an eligible postsecondary institution or nominated by the employing agency. Employing agency must hold an approved waiver of staffing qualifications on behalf of the applicant.
Applicant must demonstrate: Financial need; Academic achievement.
Other application requirements: Recommendations from institution faculty; Points based on GPA, income and EFC; Applicant must be pursuing permit to teach/supervise in field of child care and development.
Additional information:
Recipients attending two-year postsecondary institutions will receive up to $1,000 annually for up to two-years; Recipients attending four-year institutions will receive up to $2,000 annually for up to two-years
Applicants continuing beyond two years may re-apply but can not cumulatively receive more than $6,000 through the program
Recipients must maintain at least half-time enrollment in approved course of study leading to Child Development Permit; maintain satisfactory academic progress; meet federal Selective Service registration requirements; and commit one year of full-time employment in a licensed child care center for every year they receive the grant
