NATAS Mid-Atlantic Chapter Young Producer's Award

The Young Producer’s Award is an established scholarship program sponsored by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences/Mid-Atlantic Chapter. The winner will receive a $2,500 scholarship and will have the opportunity to work closely with television professionals to produce a 30-second public service announcement, which will be broadcast on television stations throughout the region. There will also be a runner-up scholarship award in the amount of $500.

The Young Producer’s competition is open to any high school senior who plans to enter college in the fall and major in a communications-related field such as broadcasting, film, journalism, advertising, or public relations. Those entering must currently be attending a high school in the Tri-State region serviced by our NATAS/Mid-Atlantic Chapter, which encompasses Pennsylvania (except Erie), New Jersey (from Trenton south) and Delaware.

Entrants must produce a script and storyboard for a 30-second TV public service announcement on a specific topic, given on the website. Entries will be judged by a panel of television professionals. Evaluation criteria are:
- Rationale Statement: The statement should be a clear and descriptive synopsis of the content of the PSA. PSA’s have three purposes: to raise awareness, to change opinion, or to urge the viewer to take action. Please decide how your PSA can fulfill at least one (or more) of these goals: Is the proposed concept and treatment appropriate to the topic? Can it be produced economically? Bear in mind that the most effective and memorable PSA’s have simple visuals and a single strong concept.
- Format Presentation: The script and storyboard will be judged on clarity, knowledge of subject and creativity. Storyboards will NOT be judged on artistic ability. PSA’s must be no longer than 30 seconds.

Entries Must Include:
- Entry form and rationale completed solely by the student and signed by both the student and his/her faculty adviser.
- Storyboard illustrating the various scenes in the PSA completed solely by the student.
- Script detailing video on one side and audio on the other, completed solely by the student.
