Why Microsoft Licensing, GP?
The increasing diversity of our society reminds us that all of America’s citizens must have access to higher education if our nation is to sustain and advance itself as a global, competitive democracy in the new millennium. The future of our economy and quality of life depend upon the preparation of a diverse cadre of leaders who can help build a stronger society. These potential leaders, especially those drawn from groups that have traditionally and historically been denied access to higher education, require the necessary support and opportunities to earn and complete a college education.
What is the Microsoft Licensing, GP Scholarship?
The Microsoft Licensing, GP Scholarship is funded by the Community Committee and was established in 2006 to provide outstanding, low income diverse students with an opportunity to complete an undergraduate college degree. The goal of Microsoft Licensing, GP is to promote academic excellence by providing new and continuing outstanding students, who have significant financial need, the opportunity to reach their full potential.
Approved disciplines include: Business, Information Technology, Human Resources, Finance, and Accounting.
The Microsoft Licensing, GP Scholars
In 2006, a bold vision of what America’s future would look like began to take shape. In that view, America’s leadership would include 20,000 individuals, all people of color, who would make a significant impact on the future direction of the nation. Coming from among the most financially needy students and attending the nation’s best colleges and universities, they would represent the extraordinary promise inherent among all highly academically capable individuals, no matter what their background. Moreover, the planners envisioned that the researched experiences of the student’s matriculation and retention, the fact of these individuals’ extraordinary successes to terminal degrees, and the testimony of their voices, would spark conversation, and perhaps debate, leading to public policies and added philanthropic contributions in support of similarly able and financially challenged young people.
Who’s Eligible?
Students are eligible to be considered for a Microsoft Licensing, GP scholarship if they:
· Will be enrolling for the first time at a Truckee Meadows Community College or University of Nevada Reno as a full-time (12 or more credits per semester, first-year student in the fall of 2011).
· Will be currently enrolled in one of the approved disciplined areas needing additional funding to continue with their full-time costs. (12 or more credits per semester)
· Must be a student in financial need (to be determined by the high school).
· Maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher during the college school year.
· Have attained a cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 on an unweighted 4.0 scale or have earned a GED.
· Willing to provide a copy of their grades, GPA and willing to meet with Microsoft Licensing, GP to check on their progress during the school year.
· Have demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular, or other activities (to include sports, clubs, and employment).
· Have completed and submitted all three required forms (Required *Essay Submission, Nominee Personal Information form, and, Release form for use of Photo for press release and public promotion for Microsoft Licensing, GP ) by the deadline.
Scholarship Awards
Microsoft Licensing, GP will award the following scholarships and continuation funds:
Scholarship:
2 x $3,000.00 to Truckee Meadows Community College
1 x $5,000.00 to University of Nevada Reno
Approved disciplines include: Business, Information Technology, Human Resources, Finance, and Accounting.

500 word essay (typed, double spaced addressing the following:
The impact of technology on their work (if they have a job), school and home life.

Students must include the school of choice (TMCC or UNR) in the Nominee Personal Information Form. Applicants can only apply for the scholarship of one school, and not both.
Our goal is to have all essays submitted by April 1st, inform each school which student was chosen by May and to have an awards ceremony at Microsoft (including the students parents/family and faculty) in June of the coming year.
The application process for Microsoft Licensing, GP Scholarship awards is highly competitive, and we urge students to submit their nomination packets as early as possible.
