Congress Bundestag Youth Exchange Program

The CBYX program offers full scholarships for high school students, between the ages of 15-18 with a GPA of 3.0 or above, to spend the coming academic year living and studying in Germany. High School graduates are eligable as long as they meet the age requirements.

The program is funded by the US Department of State and administered by 4 exchange organizations in the US and their partner organizations in Germany.

The CBYX program seeks to foster leadership development, international and multicultural understanding, and global awareness among American youth. More importantly, the program is designed to strengthen ties between the younger generations of the USA and Germany.

No prior knowledge of the German language is required. All CBYX scholarship recipients spend 3 weeks in a language and culture enrichment program while in Germany.

Scholarships cover:

- Roundtrip international airfare
- 4 day pre-departure orientation in Washington, DC
- 3 week language and culture program in Germany
- Trips to Berlin and Weimar
- Opportunity to meet US/German legislators
- Basic health insurance
- Placement with German host family and attendance at German high school
- Support service overseas


Students are responsible for:

- Travel cost to regional interview
- Domestic flight to Washington D.C.
- Expenses for passport
- Spending money


ASSE International offers 50 scholarships for the areas of Northern California, Oregon, Washington, Hawaii, Alaska, Montana, Idaho, Nevada, Wyoming, North Dakota and South Dakota.
