West Virginia PROMISE Scholarships

The PROMISE (Providing Real Opportunities for Maximizing In-State Student Excellence) Scholarship is a merit-based scholarship program that is designed to make college more affordable to all qualified West Virginia students.

The program, funded for the first time in 2001, will provide each eligible West Virginia high school graduate a full tuition scholarship to a state college or university in West Virginia or an equivalent dollar scholarship to an in-state independent college or university. The PROMISE Scholarship is based on the student's achievements - not on his or her parents' financial resources, not on the college's resources, not on other monetary factors. It is tied directly to the achievement on part of the individual.
