There are so many oddball scholarships out there these days, and it might not seem
likely you will end up winning any of them, but there is always a chance. If you
think you might end up $10,000 richer (or even $1,000, for that matter) in exchange
for a few hours of your time, though, you probably should check some of them out.

Alice McArver Ratchford Scholarship
The Alice McArver Ratchford scholarship is a renewable scholarship available to female undergraduate students at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Chick and Sophie Major Memorial Duck Calling Contest
The Chick & Sophie Major Memorial Scholarship Duck Calling Contest is open to any high school senior in the United States who can call ducks.
The scholarships can be used to further their education in any field. Each contestant must follow the rules ordained by the World's Championship Duck Calling Contest. They have 90 seconds to use four calls -- hail, feed, comeback and mating.
There is no entry fee for this contest, but contestants must register through the Stuttgart Chamber of Commerce in Stuttgart, Ark.

Dannie Jasmine Scholarship
The mission of the mule deer foundation (MDF) is to ensure the conservation of mule and black-tailed deer and their habitats. As a way to protect our mule deer heritage, the Jasmine family and MDF have teamed up to provide an annual scholarship at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR), Department of Environmental and Resource Sciences (ERS). Today's students are tomorrow's decision-makers who will lead wildlife conservation efforts through this millennium.

Duck Brand Stuck at Prom Scholarship Contest
The Henkal Corporation's Duck Brand Duct Tape "Stuck at Prom" Contest is open to legal residents of the United States and Canada, including the District of Columbia, but excluding Puerto Rico and the Province of Quebec. This contest rewards individuals for creating prom attire made completely out of duck tape.
Each couple must submit:

Frederick and Mary F. Beckley "Left-Handed" Scholarship
Juniata's left-handed scholarship was established by the late Mary Francis Beckley, a former Juniata student, with a bequest of $24,000. More than 40 left-leaning Juniata students have taken advantage of the scholarship since its inception in 1979.
The scholarship is reserved for sophomores, juniors or seniors attending Juniata College. The stipend cannot be applied to other institutions. The Beckley scholarship is open to any student who demonstrates financial need as well as academic success.

Established by Joseph H. Deppen, in memory of his sister, the Gertrude J. Deppen Scholarship is for Bucknell University students who meet the following criteria:
- have resided in Mount Carmel for 10 years
- are graduates of Mount Carmel Public High School
- are not habitual users of tobacco, intoxicating liquor, and narcotics
- do not participate in strenuous athletic contests.

L. Ron Hubbard Illustrators of The Future Contest
Established in 1988, the L. Ron Hubbard Illustrators of The Future Contest is an ongoing merit competition for new and amateur artists. Run on a quarterly basis, an eligible entry is comprised of three science fiction/fantasy illustrations done in a black & white medium rendered from the artist's imagination. Should the artist win with this entry, he is then sent a story from the companion L. Ron Hubbard Writers of The Future Contest for which to render an illustration.
This illustration then becomes his or her entry in the yearly Grand Prize competition.

L. Ron Hubbard Writers of The Future Contest
The L. Ron Hubbard Writers of The Future Contest is an ongoing merit competition for new and amateur aspiring writers. Run on a quarterly basis, an eligible entry is any previously unpublished short story or novelette (under 17,000 words) of science fiction or fantasy.
Three prizes are awarded each quarter: 1st Place $1000, 2nd Place $750, 3rd Place $500. The four 1st Place stories undergo a separate judging process each year to determine the Grand Prize winner of $4000. There is a limit of one entry per entrant per quarter, entrants retain all rights in their stories, no entry fee is required, and all judging is by professional writers only.

LaFontaine Aquatic Entomology Scholarship
This grant was created to honor Gary LaFontaine and the aquatic entomology he loved and spent his life studying. A fund has been established in the Federation of Fly Fishers Foundation, to support graduate students (MS or PhD) doing a research project in aquatic entomology. A resume, a short synopsis of the project, and letter of recommendation from his or her faculty adviser are requested for each candidate. Nominations will be forwarded to the VP of Education and the Education Committee for recommendations to the FFF Foundation.

Little People of America Scholarships
Scholarship information and applications, including letters of recommendation, are available online from early January and due by mid-April in the year prior to the school year you are planning on attending college.
Scholarships are given, in order of preference to:
• members of LPA who have a medically diagnosed form of dwarfism
• immediate family members of dwarfs who are also paid members of LPA
• people with dwarfism who are not members of LPA
• disabled students in general
• non-disabled students who can demonstrate a need for financial educational assistance

Loyola University Zolp Scholarships
This endowed scholarship is available to pay toward tuition to any Catholic student by the name of Zolp who attends Loyola University Chicago. A copy of a birth certificate and a baptismal or confirmation certificate must be filed with the Office of Student Financial Assistance.

The Mycological Society of America awards a number of scholarships to recognize excellence in research, teaching and service among its membership. The awardees for these honors are selected from nominations made to the Distinctions Committee. Starfleet Academy Scholarships
Any active Starfleet member is eligible for a Starfleet Scholarship. The Scholarships are awarded in amounts of $500. Members can be attending community colleges, four-year colleges, most technical schools, junior colleges and universities or graduate school.

Tall Clubs International Student Scholarships
Annually, at the Tall Clubs International Convention, TCI awards student scholarships of up to $1,000 each to tall students who are under 21 years of age and attending their first year of college in the following fall. The Collegiate Inventors Competition
Introduced in 1990, The Collegiate Inventors Competition has rewarded and encouraged hundreds of students to share their inventive ideas with the world. It promotes exploration in invention, science, engineering, technology, and other creative endeavors and provides a window on the future technologies from which society will benefit in the future.

The Kor Memorial Scholar
The purpose of the Kor Memorial Scholarship is to recognize and encourage scholarship in fields of language study. Familiarity with Klingon or other constructed languages is not required, however creative and innovative applicants are preferred.
