Official Rules

Eligibility

The Resolve to Evolve Essay Scholarship is open to all United States citizens who are registered users of Scholarships.com, will be enrolled in high school during the 2012-2013 academic year and will be between the ages 13 and 19 at the time the scholarship is awarded.

Entries will be accepted only within the application dates and are limited to one per person. Entries do not carry over to subsequent contests but applicants are welcome to submit future entries if their essay is not chosen. Once an applicant has won, they are no longer eligible for future Scholarships.com-sponsored scholarships. All submissions from past winners will be automatically disqualified and discarded. Once submitted, all entries become the property of the Scholarships.com.

Submission Method

All essays must be entered online through the submission form on Scholarships.com. Copy the text of essay from its original document and paste it into the designated boxes of the online submission form. Part One must consist of no more than 5,000 characters (including spaces and punctuation) and Part Two should be no more than 1,200 characters (including spaces and punctuation). Spelling and grammar do count; please provide the necessary checks prior to submission.

Timeline

Applicants may submit entries from August 1, 2012 through September 30, 2012. Finalists will be notified by November 6th for additional materials. Winners will be notified in late November, announced in early December and awarded by December 14, 2012.

Awards:

The applicant who submits the best overall essay will receive a $2,000 scholarship. One (1) winner will also be selected from each grade level (freshman, sophomore, junior and senior) and these applicants will receive a $1,000 scholarship each.

Award money is to be applied to cover winners’ educational expenses in the field or major of their choosing. The receipt of each award by each winner is subject to the following conditions:

  • Scholarship winner must sign and return all required legal documents provided by Scholarships.com, verifying and guaranteeing the work submitted is an original, unpublished essay authored by said winner. Any essay found to be in any way reproduced or copied from an existing work will be disqualified immediately.
  • All monetary awards must be applied to cover winners’ college, university or vocational school tuition and education-related expenses, such as room and board or books and supplies.
  • Under no circumstances should monies awarded to winners be used toward non-educational expenses.

Scholarships.com reserves the right to terminate this promotion by giving notice as deemed appropriate to Scholarships.com, on this website site, and should such notice be given, the promotion shall terminate at 11:59:59 p.m. (ET) on the seventh (7th) day thereafter. Notwithstanding said termination, the scholarships will be awarded as set forth in these Official Rules.

Limitation of Liability:

Scholarships.com is not responsible for any incorrect or inaccurate information, technical error, or human error which may occur in the processing of entries and submissions. Scholarships.com assumes no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect or alteration of entries. Scholarships.com reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Resolve to Evolve Essay Scholarship, in whole or in part, at any time.

Selection of Finalists

Following the September 30th deadline, Scholarships.com will contact finalists via email. Finalists will be required to provide proof of enrollment (i.e., official/unofficial transcript, printout of courses or a letter of enrollment/admittance from high school) as well as a letter of reference that specifically addresses their potential and provides support for their receipt of scholarship assistance; this letter cannot not be from a relative – we recommend asking a teacher, employer, supervisor or coach. Finalists will have one week from the day Scholarships.com contacts them to turn in all required materials. Only complete applications will be considered.

Selection of Winners:

Five winners will be selected from among the finalists, notified in November and announced in December. The odds of winning depend on the quality of each entry. The decisions of judges are final. Winners will be notified via email. If Scholarships.com does not receive a reply to the winner notification announcement sent by email within ten (10) days from the date sent, the award will be forfeited and an alternate winner will be selected from among the remaining eligible entries. Unless prohibited by law, the winner will be required to complete and return an affidavit of eligibility and a publicity/liability release within two (2) weeks of responding to the notification. Acceptance of award constitutes permission (except where prohibited by law) to use winners’ names, cities, states, likenesses and/or voices for purposes of advertising, promotion and publicity without additional compensation. Awards will be sent to the winners after all required proof and documentation is received.

Terms & Conditions:

By entering, participants agree to be bound by these Official Rules and the decisions of Scholarships.com, which shall be final. All applicable federal, provincial, state, and local laws and regulations apply.

Except where prohibited by law, participation constitutes the winners’ consent to Scholarships.com’s use of their names, cities and states of residence, and entries for advertising, publicity, and promotional purposes in any media, online or offline, without further permission, consent, payment or other consideration. If, for any reason, the promotion is not capable of running as planned, including infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures or any other causes which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of the promotion, Scholarships.com reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the promotion and to select winners from among all eligible entries received prior to the date of termination. Scholarships.com reserves the right to amend or modify the Terms & Conditions at any time during the promotion.
