Official Rules

Eligibility

The Scholarships.com "Resolve to Evolve" Essay Scholarship is open to all United States citizens who are registered users of Scholarships.com and meet the following criteria:

  • Applicant must be enrolled in high school (grades 9 through 12) during the 2011-2012 academic year and between the ages 13 and 19 at the time the prize is awarded. Proof of enrollment, such as an official/unofficial transcript, printout of courses, or a letter of enrollment or admittance from your high school is required as part of your application.

Entries will be for the applicable academic year based on date of application and are limited to one per person. Entries do not carry over to subsequent contests but applicants are welcome to submit future entries if their essay is not chosen. Once an applicant has won, they are no longer eligible for future Scholarships.com essay scholarships. All submissions from past winners will be automatically disqualified and discarded.

Submission Method

All submissions must be entered by mail on 8.5" x 11" paper. Part One must consist of no fewer than 300 words and no more than 800 words and Part Two should be no more than 150 words. For the purposes of legibility and accurate interpretation of each essay, all entries must be printed - either typed or computer-generated. Handwritten submissions will be automatically disqualified. Part Three (letters of recommendation) must be typed or computer-generated and must be submitted together with other materials as part of the scholarship application packet. Proof of enrollment must also be included as part of your application packet. Your entry must contain your full (first, middle and last) name, complete home address including zip code, home telephone number with area code, date of birth, and email address. Only completed applications will be considered.

Timeline

Applicants may begin submitting their materials on May 16, 2011. The deadline for entries is September 30, 2011. Entries received that are postmarked before May 16, 2011 or after September 30, 2011 will be disqualified. Winners will be notified in late October and announced mid-November. Prizes will be awarded in November 2011.

Prizes:

The applicant who submits the best overall essay will receive a $2,000 scholarship. One (1) winner will also be selected from each grade level (freshman, sophomore, junior, senior) and will receive a $1,000 scholarship each.

Award money is to be applied to cover prize winner’s educational expenses in the field or major of their choosing.

The receipt of each prize by each prize winner is subject to the following conditions:

  • Prize Winner must sign and return all required legal documents provided by Scholarships.com, verifying and guaranteeing the work submitted is an original, unpublished essay authored by said prize winner. Any essay found to be in any way reproduced or copied from an existing work will immediately be disqualified
  • All prizes awarded must be applied to cover prize winner’s college, university or vocational school tuition and education-related expenses, such as room and board or books and supplies
  • Under no circumstances should monies awarded to prize winners be used by prize winners towards non-educational expenses

Sponsor reserves the right to terminate this promotion by giving notice as deemed appropriate to Sponsor, on this Web site, and should such notice be given, the promotion shall terminate at 11:59:59 p.m. (ET) on the 7th day thereafter. Notwithstanding said termination, the Prizes will be awarded as set forth in these Official Rules.

Limitation of Liability:

Scholarships.com is not responsible for any incorrect or inaccurate information, technical error, or human error which may occur in the processing of entries and submissions. Scholarships.com assumes no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect or alteration of entries. Scholarships.com reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Resolve to Evolve Essay Scholarship, in whole or in part, at any time.

Selection of the Winners:

Five winners will be selected from among all eligible entries and notified in October and announced in November. The odds of winning depend on the number of entries submitted and the quality of each entry. The decisions of judges are final. The winner will be notified via email. If Scholarships.com does not receive a reply to the winner notification announcement sent by email within fourteen (14) days from the date sent, the prize will be forfeited and an alternate winner will be selected from among the remaining eligible entries. Unless prohibited by law, the winner will be required to complete and return an affidavit of eligibility and a publicity/liability release within two (2) weeks of responding to the notification. Acceptance of prize constitutes permission (except where prohibited by law) to use winner's name, city, state, likeness and/or voice for purposes of advertising, promotion and publicity without additional compensation. Prize award materials and information will be sent to the winner after all required proof and documentation is received.

Terms & Conditions:

By entering, participants agree to be bound by these Official Rules and the decisions of Scholarships.com, which shall be final. All applicable federal, provincial, state, and local laws and regulations apply.

Except where prohibited by law, participation constitutes the winner's consent to Scholarships.com’s use of their names, city and state of residence and entry for advertising, publicity, and promotional purposes in any media, online or offline, without further permission, consent, payment or other consideration, unless prohibited by law. If, for any reason, the promotion is not capable of running as planned, including infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of the promotion, Scholarships.com reserves the right, at their sole discretion, to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the promotion and to award the grand prize from among all eligible entries received prior to the date of termination. Scholarships.com reserves the right to amend or modify the Terms & Conditions at any time during the promotion.
