Scholarship Description

The Rosa L. Parks Scholarship Foundation is dedicated to awarding scholarships to Michigan high school seniors who hold close to Mrs. Parks' ideals while demonstrating academic skills, community involvement and economic need. Since it was founded by The Detroit News and Detroit Public Schools in 1980, The Rosa Parks Scholarship Foundation has awarded over $2,000,000 in scholarship money to more than 1,000 high school seniors. The Foundation awards approximately forty $2,000 non-renewable scholarships annually. Applications run from the winter until the deadline.

To be eligible for the Rosa L. Parks Scholarship, applicants must: graduate by the upcoming spring with plans to enroll full-time in a higher education program in the upcoming fall; have a GPA of 2.5 or above; demonstrate financial need; document honors received and community service record; provide copies of transcripts and two recommendation letters (at least one should come from a school representative; also suggested is a member of the clergy or a community or civic representative); and complete the application form, including a short, 200-300 word essay.
