Scholarship Description

Two $750 nonrenewable scholarships will be offered in memory of Charlie Schulz, who tragically lost his life to suicide in 2019. He was an LGBTQIA+, civil rights, animal rights and gun control advocate. Charlie was an active member of his high school robotics team and an accomplished artist.

Scholarship Details

In honor of Charlie, who was a college student at the time of his death, two New Jersey high school seniors headed towards post-secondary education will each be awarded a Charlie Schulz Memorial Scholarship.

Eligibility

  • New Jersey resident
  • Graduating high school senior
  • Accepted to or enrolled in a post-secondary institution in the coming fall
  • LGBTQIA+ advocate who has experience with mental health issues, either their own or someone close to them

How to Apply

In order to apply, you will need to submit the following for consideration:

  1. Cover letter including your full name, mailing and email addresses, plans for future academic career, be it college or trade school, and name of school you are currently attending.
  2. A 1-2 page essay or 2 - 4 minute video, sharing your or a loved one’s journey with mental health, possibly how it related to LGBTQIA+ concerns, and how you plan to use this experience to positively impact others with a similar situation.
  3. Optional - Character references or pictures of art you have created.

While not required, working or volunteering at organizations that increase mental health awareness, provide mental health support, or focus on LGBTQIA+ issues will be a plus on student applications.
