Scholarship Description

The Ruth F. Wallace Scholarship was created to assist eligible students in McDuffie County, specifically Thomson High School graduates, to continue their pursuit of a secondary education and to honor Mrs. Ruth F. Wallace. This is a $1,000 award and is renewable for three consecutive years after original award is made, provided all requirements are met for renewal. Must be pursuing a program in or directly related to business, education, engineering, manufacturing, or technology.

The applicant shall be a resident of McDuffie County who is a graduate of Thomson High School. First consideration shall be given to a student in the pursuit of a degree/career in education or business. Additional consideration shall be given to a student who needs financial assistance to continue his/her education in the pursuit of their chosen degree/career. Additional consideration shall be given to an applicant who will graduate with a 3.0 GPA or higher. The applicant shall have been active in community, church and/or extra-curricular activities.

The applicant shall complete the application form provided by the Community Foundation for the CSRA and provide a letter of recommendation. The applicant shall provide an unofficial transcript and a narrative setting forth personal goals, reasons for going into chosen field of study, and plans after graduation from college. The narrative shall explain the need for financial assistance and the benefit of receiving the scholarship and shall be between 500-750 words.
