- Scholarship Description
- MALDEF strives to implement programs that are structured to bring Latinos into the mainstream of American political and socio-economic life; providing better educational opportunities; encouraging participation in all aspects of society; and offering a positive vision for the future. Unique to MALDEF is an approach that combines advocacy, educational outreach, and litigation strategies to achieve socio-economic change.
MALDEF provides scholarship resource guides as well, with informative resources for students, parents, and educators on scholarships that do not inquire about immigration status or undocumented students.
MALDEF has always sought to support law students who seek to further MALDEF's mission of advancing the civil rights of the Latino community in the United States through the legal profession. In recent years, MALDEF has annually awarded 5-15 law school scholarships of $5,000 each to deserving law students from throughout the nation.
MALDEF's Law School Scholarship Program is open to all law students currently enrolled full-time at an accredited United States law school. Applicants are evaluated for their academic and extracurricular achievements, for their background and financial need, and, most important, for their demonstrated commitment to advancing Latino civil rights in their careers.
-MALDEF Law School scholarship application form, including the financial statement form completed by the applicant's law school
-Personal Statement up to 750 words, double-spaced, detailing the applicant's personal background and financial need, academic and extracurricular achievement, a record of service to the Latino community, and future plans
-Transcripts for college (for all applicants) and law school (for applicants who have already completed a year of law school). Unofficial transcripts accepted

by Susan DutcaVandals allegedly trashed the 2,997 American flags planted across Occidental College's campus as a 9/11 Memorial by the college's Republican Club. The broken and trashed flags were replaced by fliers that read, "RIP the 1,455,590 innocent Iraqis who died during the U.S. invasion for something they didn't do." The memorial, which was approved by, and registered with the college, was quickly [...]
