I agree, Duke is an amazing campus that is absolutely beautiful. It is a place where students are challenged academically, intellectually as well as socially. Although my daughter was not admitted to Duke for the 2015 school year as a freshman (her #1 choice), she plans to possibly reapply as a transfer student. As a single parent of 2 teens, it would have been a blessing for my daughter to attend Duke from an educational as well as a financial standpoint. According to this website, tuition/room expenses are fully met for families with an income under $60,000. We live in Inglewood California, and my income is just below $55,000.00. Unfortunately, it is expected that lots of debt be accumulated through loans for many of the colleges she was accepted to.

Visiting Duke was one of the best experiences of my life. Little things that applicants might dislike about the actual campus is that while it is incredibly beautiful, there is always LOTS of construction going on, as Duke is constantly building and expanding. Also, any freshman accepted here would be housed in Duke's East Campus which doesn't have any air conditioning. Even so, the North Carolina climate isn't terribly hot (or maybe it's just what I have to compare it to: A life in Texas!) Those couple of comments having been said, I think that Duke is still one of the most best colleges in America, and it's programs are absolutely amazing.
