The mission of the Charles B. Staats Memorial Foundation is to inspire and empower high school seniors to become future leaders and active members of their community by serving as swim coaches to youth and adults in their communities. The Charles B. Staats Memorial Foundation (CBSMF) Scholarship is awarded annually to a graduating high school senior, who is also a swim coach. The Scholarship is open to any student in the US who meets the criteria.
Scholarship Details
- Award amount: $3,500 per year, renewable for up to four years.
- Eligible expenses include tuition, books, room and board, and mandatory school fees.
- Scholarship is open to swim coaches graduating from high school in the current academic year.
Eligibility Criteria
- Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 (unweighted).
- Must have at least 2 years of experience as a swim coach and continue to coach the summer after high school graduation.
- Must provide one swimming-related reference letter (e.g., from a coach or community leader) and one additional reference letter (no family members).
- Must submit SAT/ACT scores (if required, otherwise contact CBSMF).
- Must provide proof of acceptance to an accredited 4-year college or university.

The CBSMF Scholarship was specifically created to honor the love of coaching and acknowledge the importance of coaching in a swimmer's life . CBSMF believes that the focus, dedication and hard work required by coaching translates to focus, dedication and success in other areas of life.
