The Jennifer Casey Alderman Legacy Scholarship Award was established to honor Jennifer’s legacy and her dedication to her family and advocacy.
Scholarship Details
- Annual $10,000 scholarship, awarded in $2,500 increments over four years
- Recipient must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 to renew the scholarship annually
- Excess funds will support research on metastatic breast cancer, specifically leptomeningeal disease
- The scholarship will be presented annually on May 28, the date Jennifer entered eternal life
Eligibility Criteria
- Open to young adults who have lost a parent to metastatic breast cancer or face financial hardship due to a parent currently living with metastatic breast cancer
- Applicants must be pursuing higher education as a post-high school graduate
- Open to residents of Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, or Tennessee
Application Process
- Complete the scholarship application form
- Submit a personal essay (up to five pages) on a subject of your choice
- Provide proof of nominee qualifications:
- Obituary
- Copy of death certificate
- Signed letter from the parent's medical oncologist
- Submit all materials by the application deadline of April 15
Jennifer Casey Alderman was first diagnosed with Stage II breast cancer in 2009 and faced a metastatic recurrence of Stage IV breast cancer in 2013. Despite her diagnosis, Jennifer’s primary focus remained on raising her children, Casey, Connor, and Riley. She was passionate about attending their sporting events, traveling, and going to concerts. Jennifer was a founding patient advocate with Twisted Pink and dedicated her life to advocating for better outcomes for metastatic breast cancer patients through research and support.
