  • Scholarship Description
  • The L. Ron Hubbard Writers of The Future Contest is an ongoing merit competition for new and amateur aspiring writers. Run on a quarterly basis, an eligible entry is any previously unpublished short story or novelette (under 17,000 words) of science fiction or fantasy. There will be three cash prizes in each quarter: a first place prize of $1,000, a second place prize of $750, and a third place prize of $500. In addition, at the end of the year, the winners will have their entries re-judged, and a grand prize winner shall be determined and receive an additional $5,000. All types of science fiction, fantasy, and dark fantasy are welcome. For more information, or to apply, please visit the provider's website.

This is an awesome contest! I have been at the 2018 anniversary celebration where the winners are acknowledged by the judges. Brandon Sanderson was there!!! The winners were so appreciative. Yes, it is a big deal when you win. Oh, yes, there is also the Illustrators of the Future contest. The artist winners were also there. The whole thing was amazing...

Why is this scholarship named after the Scientology nutcase? Yeah, he was a writer, but he's responsible for one of the most corrupt religious institutions in the United States.

Senator Lamar Alexander of Tennessee, the current chairman of the Senate education committee, has recently proposed the Student Loan Repayment and FAFSA Simplification Act, a piece of legislation that would allow students with no income to forgo federal student loan repayments. His recommendations, which he developed with bipartisan support, would also simplify the FAFSA and reduce the number of federal loan repayment options from nine to two. [...]
