To be eligible for the Mary Rita Batesole Environmental Education Scholarship, applicants must: be a high school senior with a 2.85 GPA; be seeking a degree or certificate in any field related to environmental education and/or sustainability; demonstrate financial need; reside in southern Windsor County or surrounding towns (Towns include Andover, Baltimore, Cavendish, Chester, Clarendon, Ludlow, Mt. Holly, Mount Tabor, Plymouth, Reading, Shrewsbury, Springfield, Wallingford, Weathersfield, West Windsor, Weston, Windsor, and Woodstock. Qualified Lakes Rescue/Pauline long-term seasonal residents may also be considered.); and demonstrate a strong work ethic and school/community involvement, preferably but not necessarily in environmental endeavors.
Besides completing the application, applicants must also submit: an official transcript; a FAFSA form; two non-family letters of recommendation (these may be from teachers, employers, religious leaders or community service supervisors); a letter of acceptance from the chosen institution; and short essay responses from three assigned questions. Applicants may re-apply in successive years. The application can be either mailed or emailed.
