  • The Pearl Mae Foundation annual scholarship is for students who want to pursue careers in the health care or first responder fields. To help support the increased demands of the growing senior population. Student must be seeking a career in the healthcare or first responder fields. Graduate students are also encouraged to apply. Priority is given to students living in South Florida and Corpus Christi, Texas. To prepare for submitting your application, please gather the following documents: Current school transcript, 2020 FASFA SAR report, Two letters of recommendation, and the School acceptance letter. Required is a 500-word essay (Topic: describe your career goals, how your career will relate to the purpose and mission of The Pearl Mae Foundation, and how the scholarship will impact your ability to pursue your educational goals.) Please also include a statement of special circumstances (optional) In 1-2 paragraphs, provide a statement explaining any personal or family circumstances affecting your need for financial assistance. Hello, my name is Genly I am currently a sophomore at Nova Southeastern University. I plan on attending Nursing school in the Winter and this scholarship would really help me pursue my goal of becoming an Anesthetic Nurse in the future. I have always dreamed of working in the medical field since a young age and this scholarship would help me achieve that goal.

NC Senator Proposes Taxing of Athletic Scholarships

In response to the NCAA's vote to allow athletes to profit from their names, images and likeness, Senator Richard Burr of North Carolina has proposed taxing those scholarships. Senator Burr tweeted: "If college athletes are going to make money off their likenesses while in school, their scholarships should be treated like income. I'll be introducing legislation that subjects scholarships given to athletes who choose to 'cash in' to income taxes." [...]
