Scholarship Description

Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (JSHS) is is a free STEM competition for 9th through 12th grade students that is administered by the National Science Teaching Association and sponsored by the U.S. Office of the Secretary of Defense and the U.S. Departments of the Army, Navy, and Air Force. High school students present their original science, technology, engineering, or mathematics research while competing for scholarships and cash awards at the Regional and National level. Along the way, they are mentored by professional scientists and engineers and exposed to real STEM careers.

JSHS awards a total of 168 awards, 147 at the regional level and 48 at the national level. Awards come in the form of cash awards or scholarships, depending on placement. The highest award, first place oral presentation at Nationals, is worth $12,000.
