The IABC Houston Student Scholarship is in memory of Downs Matthews, an IABC Houston pioneer, to foster the communication profession. Undergraduate and graduate student applicants should be majoring in a field of communication, and either be attending a Houston-area institution or hail from the Houston area. Scholarship assistance is based upon academic performance, leadership potential, and financial need. Applicants must be enrolled for a minimum of 12 hours for undergraduate students or nine hours for post-graduate students and have completed a minimum of six hours of core classes in their major. Applicants should have at least a 3.25 GPA in their major and a 3.0 GPA overall.
The Downs Matthews Memorial Scholarship is a one-time award. IABC Houston pays scholarship funds directly to the student.
