Founded in memory of James Alan Cox, a television photojournalist, The James Alan Cox Foundation for Student Photojournalists aims to provide financial support to student photographers of high school and college age. The focus of work and entries is photojournalism. Various scholarships will be awarded to those students whose work "tells a story." This is a fairly broad topic and may include a variety of subject matter and approaches (breaking news, sporting events, etc.) Jim Cox, who was a television photojournalist in Phoenix, always "told a story" through his work, whether it was in video or still photography. Each award is $2,500. Four of the college awards are for video work, while one is for still photography. There is also a graduate student award for video work; also $2,500.
