Diabetes Scholars offers a set of general and specific scholarships to high school seniors living with Type 1 diabetes who are headed to college/university in the upcoming school year. There is one application to be considered for any and all of the scholarships – all students who fill out the application will be considered for those scholarships that match them. In addition, Diabetes Scholars also offers one scholarship to a sophomore or junior standing veterinary student.
A program of Beyond Type 1, Diabetes Scholars is aimed at empowering success through education for people living with type 1 diabetes. Diabetes Scholars offers scholarships for T1Ds entering college. Originally founded as the Diabetes Scholars Foundation in 2008, the goal was that – in this one small area of life – diabetes could be an advantage. Since 2008 the Foundation has awarded over $1.75 million in college scholarships to students with Type 1, through scholarships of $1,000 to $5,000 each. In 2018, the Diabetes Scholars became a program of Beyond Type 1. 100% of scholarship funds donated by individuals or partners are awarded to recipients, with Beyond Type 1 absorbing all operational costs associated with the program.
