Scholarship Description

A highly educated Indian Malayalee population is vital for the prosperity of the US Indian community within the state of Michigan. In order to motivate the students, DMA will provide educational scholarships to those who have close social and cultural ties to the Malayalee community in the state. Students who demonstrate either Academic merit or active community involvement or other notable achievements in any field will be eligible to receive this scholarship. DMA will create an exclusive annual scholarship fund of $1000 or more and will solicit additional public donations to this fund.

Prospective students should submit an online application detailing their academic details and other achievements along with a personal statement. Students are required to submit one reference to vouch the student’s achievements. Applicants must submit a completed DMA Scholarship application Form, must be a high school senior and one of the applicants parents should be of Malayalee origin and Michigan resident. Applicants must have a cumulative GPA 3.0 or above (with documentary evidence) and submit any SAT, ACT or any Standardized test scores. Applicants must have a letter of reference and share details of other achievements or awards as well as submitting a personal statement.

The scholarship committee will be responsible for the program design, establishing policies and procedures, selection criteria, fund raising, publicity and selection of eligible candidates. The committee in consultation with DMA office bearers will select eligible students by assessing their merit, achievements, social and cultural ties to the Malayalee Community. The awards will be distributed during the public functions conducted by DMA Onam and/or Christmas.
