I would love this scholarship because not only do I struggle with reading but I continue to challenge myself and act like this won’t keep me down as I pursue a career in the medical field as a doctor.

Getting diagnosed with Epilepsy was probably one the most challenging times of my life. I got the final result in December and was told most of things I do on a day to day basis, I can't do anymore. I can't sit outside if the sun is too bright, I can't drive, I can't have children, I will have to be on medications my whole life, I can't eat the same odds I used to, i can't watch the movies I love, and I have to be observant of every symptom because my doctors told me at any moment I could go to sleep and not wake-up. I decided from that day that every moment of every day counts and if I want to achieve my dreams I have to work hard for them and conquer every obstacle. My diagnosis was an obstacle and I will tackle it with force and power. I will be a doctor and I will work to make my life and those that also suffer with me mean everything. This scholarship will help me build my future and finish school so I can achieve my dreams. Thank you.

Growing up, I loved watching movies and TV shows; my favorite quote is "Nothing is Impossible" from Thumbelina. Growing up, I was not too fond of reading because it wasn't something that I thought I was good at; it started to become insecurity when I was young. Growing up with my mother and four older siblings, I was always being judged and joked about my reading struggles. Finishing my 1st-grade year with my teacher telling my mother that I will have to retake 1st grade because my reading is behind my other classmates. My mother took me to a testing center for reading disabilities. After going to this learning center for about two months, I was diagnosed with dyslexia. I said goodbye to my old classmates, and my parents sent me to a school with a unique learning program. Still not having reading as a favorite thing to do, my teachers always told me that I was a hard worker even though they all knew that I hated reading. It wasn't until I was in middle school that I started reading as many books to find delightful reading. Reading books that were probably not on my level, it wasn't until the summer of 2020 that all my friends started reading books, and it started to become and discussion that we would all talk about on the phone or weekends when we tried getting together. Reading the books that my friends were reading, my mind opened up to a new reality in the book world. Spending hours and days reading the books, I never knew this series that I was reading would reflect my way of thinking and devotion towards books. I realized that reading is an enjoyment where you can escape reality just through a couple of pages. To this day, I'm not too fond of reading, but I don't hate it. Everything and anything that comes my way is a challenge. As when I was a little girl, I always tell myself that "nothing's Impossible."

I figured I would try to apply for this dyslexia scholarship since I have struggled with this disability my whole life and might as well see if I could potentiality receive something out of it. With dyslexia I have learned how to study and fought hard to keep my grades up and peruse something great out of something not so good. My mom would always tell me some of the smartest people had dyslexia and turned out to do good, now I feel like it is my tern to do something good with this. And this scholarship would help me to my journey thought college and get to fulfill my dreams.

My favorite quote comes from Pastor A. W. Tozer. The quote is “Refuse to be average. Let your soul soar as high as it will”. I am the oldest child of 3 kids. I have 2 younger sisters. My parents have been divorced since the end of my 6th-grade year. On top of all that, I have Mild Cerebral Palsy. I am known for being a fighter and giving up is not even a thought ever in my mind. I started getting involved more in the church, once my parents split. The summer after they split I went to my first Christian bible camp, and that week I decided to give my life for God. I was called by God to become a pastor, but as the Covid-19 Pandemic started, I am now leaning more towards a technology/cybersecurity degree because I have noticed my ability with working with technology. I know God has given me my talents for a reason and I know I will do anything God wants me to do, because of what God has done for me. Having Mild C.P. teaches me that I may not be able to do everything like everyone else but I will work around it and finish with the same result. The mission of Eastern University is to prepare all of their students for a successful life of Christian leadership and service, and as an Eagle Scout is prepared for a successful Christian life is exactly what I want out of the college I go to.

Hello my name is Evelyn Lovato I am 23 years old, I'm studying to become a teacher for either Kinder or 1st grade. I have a twin sister who is studying to become the first pastor in our family. My story began in Elementary when I was taken out of my normal class and sent to the office, where a person that deals with dyslexia testing began to test me, to understand what level of dyslexia I had. Then after testing they called in my parents to let them know of the results of my testing, one thing I still remember growing up is hearing the teacher letting my parents know that I need to be like my twin sister, smart, from then on I began to feel like an outsider and that I want able to ever get to the level of the other normal students. I was taken out of the class and was placed with other students with the same or other learning disability. I continued to push through and work hard to make A and B in my class but still those thoughts that I wasn't good enough kept on running through my mind. why wants I smart? why wants like my twin sister? where the thoughts that kept on coming through my mind growing up. But I knew that teaching was the path that I wanted to follow, it wants until the end of Junior year in high school when my life changed for the better, I found God in my life and I knew I was favored as a child in christ, all those negative thoughts that I once had went away forever, I found myself. Later on I was presented with a job, I was going to become an assistant teacher in a private preschool, I'm currently working there and I have been promoted to lead teacher now. Once I shut those thoughts with the help of God, I found myself and I found that I'm a person that loves decorating and love doing craft with the kids I teach. My life as a person with dyslexia has been a rollercoaster, I have learned things and I won't change a thing, because through this part of my life, this little part is where I finally have found myself as a person and also as a future teac
