Scholarship Description

The purpose of the Ida Ballard Simon Memorial Scholarship Fund is to support graduating seniors from Memphis and Shelby County, Tennessee public High Schools to meet Lincoln University's financial requirements. Applicants must be graduating seniors from a public school within the City of Memphis and have proof of acceptance and enrollment to any college, university, or technical school for the upcoming school year. A complete application must be submitted for consideration, including one letter of recommendation from a teacher, one letter of recommendation from a non-relative, and an Official Transcript which includes the cumulative grade point average, class rank, and class size (if not available, ask guidance counselor for percent ranking in class). Applicants must also submit ACT and/or SAT scores and a completed application with completed essays. Please attach your graduation photo as well as an acceptance letter from HBCU or technical school. Scholarship awards are final, non-repeating, and non-transferable. Any awards not collected will not transfer to the next calendar semester or year.

Funds for the scholarships are generated by charitable, tax-deductible donations received from businesses and individuals designated for this scholarship. The scholarship is administered by the 62nd and 65th Regiments Legacy Foundation, Inc. – Jefferson City, MO (formerly referred to as the Lincoln University Foundation Scholarship). Scholarship recipients are selected by committee members from the 62nd and 65th Regiments Legacy Foundation, Inc. and Friends of Ida that currently reside in Memphis, Tennessee. Additionally, committee members of the 62nd and 65th Regiments Legacy Foundation will collaborate with the Student Financial Aid Office of Lincoln University to identify qualified candidates from the list of students presented. All awardees must be graduating seniors of the Shelby County School District. Four-year Scholarship Awardees must have a desire to be enrolled full time at Lincoln University. Scholarship amounts will be determined each semester.
