Scholarship Description

The Jewish Community Federation and Endowment Fund offers multiple awards of up to $5,000 (renewable each year of undergrad for up to $20,000 in total) to Jewish high school seniors and graduates in the San Francisco Bay Area through the Nathan J. and Virginia H. Friedman College Scholarship.

Scholarship Details

  • This scholarship is renewable.
  • Recipients are chosen with consideration to financial need, academic merit, and involvement in the Jewish community.
  • Awarded funds may cover any expense owed to the winner's college in the year the award is received.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must maintain permanent residence in the greater San Francisco Bay Area, which includes the counties of Alameda, Contra Costa, Martin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, and Sonoma.
  • Applicants must be high school seniors who will enroll in undergraduate study at a 4-year university upon their high school graduation, or recent high school graduates who have already done so.
  • Applicants must have a GPA of 3.3 or higher.
  • Applicants must demonstrate financial need.
  • Applicants must be Jewish and must participate actively in the Jewish community.

Application Process

  1. Fill out and submit the FAFSA in advance of both the FAFSA and scholarship deadlines.
  2. Gather all required documents, including:

    • Cumulative high school transcripts
    • Two non-family letters of recommendation
    • The first page of your family's most recent tax return
    • Your financial aid award letter from your college of enrollment, if available by the deadline. If not, send it to the scholarship administrator as soon as it is available.
  3. Navigate to the submission portal for the Nathan J. and Virginia H. Friedman College Scholarship and fill out the application in advance of the deadline, including all short answer and essay responses.
  4. Upload all required documents and submit your completed application before the deadline.
