These individuals are just as capable as their peers, but many struggle in school and beyond because they fail to get the support they need. We know that with the right support, they can thrive. NCLD works every day to make meaningful change for individuals with learning and attention issues. Throughout their generosity, NCLD offers a scholarship.

Growing up I struggled in school many times. I had a learning disability. Had ADHD, Aswell while I was a child I was medicated. School growing up was so hard to focus, my mind was never focused on one thing, my mind wondered everywhere. My teachers noticed and all my life I was put into a smaller classroom to keep up. Till this day I am 19 and still struggle with focusing and still manage to do good in school. I say I sometimes I fail and take so much pressure like stress because I wish teachers understand how my brain function. I know I'm intelligent and sometimes I wish I didn't have a learning disability so I can go far and get a college paid off for free. But I'm here applying to many scholarships to get the help I need for the college of my dream. So, I can see myself grow and become the women I always dreamed of as a little girl. This will be my last year in High school, graduated with a 2.6 A's, B's I'm here to say I have challenged myself. I'm positive and looking up to what the future has for me. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to write down a short personal paragraph about my struggles growing up, would love to share more.

I struggled for years in school until a middle school teacher noticed I had a learning disability. I was tested for Special Education and was accepted. A group of teachers and my parents decided that the 504 program was best for me though. Since applying my modifications to my school work I have upped my grades to mostly A's and some B's on occasion. I am so thankful for the help I have received from my school. I was diagnosed with Dyslexia. I am 25th of 60 in my class and I'm working to improve my GPA which is 3.06785. Every number counts. :-) I am applying to all scholarships I can because my parents are still paying back money borrowed from their 401K for my older brothers college. I'd like to make things easier on them by getting as much scholarship help I can. They deserve that. I would be extremely grateful for any help. Thank you for considering me. I'm looking forward to going to college because with my disability I never pictured myself going until I got the help I needed. Now I simply can't wait to join my friends and peers. I love Chemistry and hope to get a degree from WT A&M. Thank you again. Tyler S Johnson

I was struggling in school and seemed to have difficulty learning and reading. School officials decided to have me tested for dyslexia. The school officials told my parents that I had tested positive for dyslexia. The teacher suggested using color sheets on top of books to help with my reading skills, I had to go to a separate room to do online programs instead of free periods. I had to take tests in a separate room and I could not be with my classmates. The noise made it difficult for me to focus. I really had a hard time with this in school and felt different from all the other students. I literally had to spend more time studying as well as getting additional help in school. In the end, I accepted this setback as well as a challenge, which I learned to move on with my school courses. I realized I had to work harder, which gave me a better perspective on how life can sometimes be unfair, but I had to learn to live with it and move forward. Nevertheless, after many long nights trying to study and get extra help in understanding the material for each class was a challenge. As a senior, I am ranked 5th in my class and with 4.0 GPA, which has been rewarding. I want to major in Pharmacy at Tarleton State University. But my future college career will consist of having a tutor and help from other sources in the long run. Therefore, I feel this scholarship will help me with the additional expenses that I will encounter. I hope you will consider me for your scholarship. Thank you for your time and for this opportunity.

I appreciate the fact that this scholarship is available to students with ADD/ADHD. It is definitely an added challenge academically to have issues with attention and anxiety.
