Scholarship Description

Assistance League Chicagoland West is pleased to offer scholarships of $3,500 to students enrolled, or planning to enroll, in a degree or certificate program at the College of DuPage (COD). The scholarship may be used for tuition, fees, books, and required supplies as per course syllabus. Applications must be submitted by July 15 to be considered for the upcoming school year. Funds will be submitted for distribution through the COD Financial Aid Office and will remain in the scholarship recipient's COD account provided that the student remains in good standing at COD. Any unused portion of awarded funds remaining after a year will be returned to ALCW if funds remain after the student completes their degree or certificate, transfers to another college, or drops out. Members of ALCW and their relatives are not eligible to apply for this scholarship.

Current COD students must be in good standing with a GPA of 2.5 or above and have completed a minimum of 9 credit hours applicable to the degree or certificate program in which they are currently enrolled. Applicants who are not currently enrolled at COD must be 21 or older, have a high school diploma or GED, and be seeking to improve their career prospects through a degree or certificate program at COD. Applicants must be able to demonstrate financial need by providing a copy of their FAFSA Form or the first page of their most recent 1040 tax form. These will be destroyed after review by our committee.

Applicants must take a minimum of 6 credit hours for each session that they are enrolled in (excluding summer). Applicants must reside within the defined COD District 502. Applicants who are in receipt of grants in excess of $3500 from other sources such as Pell grants and IL-MAP grants are unlikely to meet ALCW's financial need criteria. Applicants must be willing to meet with ALCW representatives and participate in media coverage related to the scholarship award. Current COD students must provide the name and COD email address of a COD professor as a reference. Non-enrolled students must provide the name and email address of a reference from a social service agency, or a supervisor with relevant knowledge of the applicant.

To apply, complete the online Scholars Support Application which can be accessed at our website. You do not need to complete the form in one session. The information can be saved and you can return to it later. Once all the required information has been completed, including the upload of any required documents, you can submit the form. ALCW does not see any of your information until you submit it. ALCW will follow up to obtain references. Applicants may be required to attend an interview with ALCW committee members by phone, in-person, or via Zoom. Scholarship recipients will be notified by ALCW via U.S. Mail or email.
