Hi! My name is Hunter Vires, and I am a student currently at Indiana University pursuing degrees in astronomy/astrophysics and biochemistry. Over the years I have realized more and more the importance of education for both the individual and the public. Without it, humanity could have never gone so far nor could it continue its long distance trek into the unknown. I want to be able to learn all that I can in order to help further our people to become something even greater and far more sustainable as we push forward through time, and this scholarship would be put to great use and give me even more motivation to start researching on my own and with my university. I have many desires in the two fields that I have chosen to dedicate my time to and specialize in; however, despite the great the number of goals that I may have, I do wish to complete them all before my time is done. As a human and as an aspiring scientist, I wish to help the world in all that I can.

My name is Tyler McCann, and I’m Tennessean. While I predominantly live with my mother and step-father, I still see my father on weekends when I’m not busy with sports or other plans. I am a first generation college student, and with that being said, I am paying for my college tuition, which is rather nerve racking -- especially considering that I am currently jobless (but am, in fact, looking for a job). I am currently accepted to and fully intend on attending Tennessee Tech (TTU) in the Fall of 2016 in order to pursue a degree in Computer Engineering (hopefully a Master’s degree). While I love computers and technology, my interests also include physical fitness and singing. I am a leading member of my small high school chorus, as well the varsity captain for my school’s cross country team (for the second year in a row). My freshman and sophomore years of high school were rather lackluster, academically speaking, due to a lack of effort and self application, achieving a mere 3.2GPA. But starting my junior year, I began to apply myself. I went from a 3.2GPA student to a straight A student that is more involved with school, being among the top percentage of my class, taking difficult classes such as AP Calculus and AP Literature, securing the position of Secretary in my class’ student council, as well as becoming a member of Mu Alpha Theta and the National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS). Taking the ACT for the first time back in April, I scored a 26, and I’m currently awaiting the scores from my most recent attempt at the ACT, aiming for a 28 or 29. Ultimately, any scholarship would be a blessing that would take a lot of stress off my shoulders, and I would be, in the words of the aliens from Toy Story, “eternally grateful!”

My name is Jessica Diaz. I attend Durango High as an incoming senior. My goal in life is to be successfully happy. I love being involved in school activities, whether it is really early or late. I have been involved at my school since stepping foot on the campus. I enjoy the outdoors, hiking, picnics, bike rides, or on a run with my dogs. I am a person that carries such enthusiasm. I love small group discussions. Eating is a daily thing, I enjoy Italian food and all of the above. School activities were a bit challenging this past year, failure had came across my life. All three years of high school I had been a part of student council. Freshmen year as a Representative, Sophomore year as Vice President, Junior year I had moved up to Executive Student Body Secretary. Unfortunately, this past year elections had resumed, I ran for Student Body President, and did not succeed. Not achieveing did not keep me from trying. I applied to be a class representative, it was played by favoritism therefore, failure struck again. I continued to not give up at this point, and being a returner from my sophomore year, I tried out for the dance team and did not succeed. I have realized maybe was my time to experience new things so I have learned I am into body building, I told my councilor to put me in weight training class. She looked at me funny because usually boys are put in the class but I like to be different. I believe women are just as capable as men. I like building things and creating a different image whether it is body building, designing building also known as architecture, or engineering. My goal is to be an engineer, my second goal is to be an MMA fighter, and my third goal still has questioning but military sounds awesome. There is more to me then meets the eye. I am an extremely fun person to be around and I hope all does you well in life, remember to be happy and stay positive. Sincerely, Jessica
