Scholarship Description

Focused on students from communities currently underrepresented in the museum conservation field, the Conservation Internship for Broadening Access (CIBA) offers opportunities for current or recent undergraduates to learn about museum conservation. Internship Details

The Conservation Internship for Broadening Access includes the following benefits:

  • 10-week summer program with mentor placement in various Smithsonian conservation labs
  • Stipend with paid housing

Eligibility Criteria

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program or recently graduated
  • U.S. citizen
  • Studied a relevant subject matter, such as:
    • chemistry
    • art history
    • design
    • photography
    • computer science
    • studio art
  • Demonstrate interest in a career in conservation or the museum field

Application Process

  1. Create an account on the Smithsonian Online Academic Appointment System (SOLAA)
  2. Start an application for the internship program
  3. Register for SOLAA
  4. Select "Internship" and then "Office of Internships"
  5. Select "Smithsonian Conservation Internship for Broadening Access (CIBA)" from the drop-down menu
  6. Submit a current CV or resume, an essay, transcripts, and two letters of recommendation
  7. Indicate your preference for Smithsonian Unit(s) in your application
