The Maryland Tuition Waiver for Foster Care Recipients is available to foster care youth who are enrolled as a candidate for an associate, bachelor’s degree or vocational certificate at a Maryland Public institution of higher education. The purpose of Tuition Waiver for Foster Care Recipients is to provide financial assistance to foster care youth.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must be under the age of 25.
- Must have resided in an out-of-home placement in Maryland at the time of high school graduation or GED completion.
- Alternatively, applicants must have resided in an out-of-home placement on their 13th birthday and have been adopted after their 14th birthday.
- Must enroll as a degree-seeking student at a public two-year or four-year higher education institution in Maryland before turning 25.
- The Maryland Department of Human Resources must confirm eligibility for the tuition waiver.
Application Process
- Complete and file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1 each year.
- Work with the Maryland Department of Human Resources to confirm your eligibility for the waiver.
- Ensure that you are enrolled as a degree-seeking student at a Maryland public institution of higher education.
If you believe you may be eligible, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)or the Maryland State Financial Aid Application (MSFAA) and contact the financial aid office at the college or university that you plan to attend. Please note that a list of students who are eligible is provided by the Maryland Department of Human Services and made available to Maryland Public colleges and universities.
