The Mildred Ramos Scholarship was established in 2012 to encourage and support the study of the Mayflower Pilgrim experience and values. Named in honor of Mildred Ramos, a distinguished leader of the Mayflower Descendants in the Commonwealth of Virginia, this scholarship awards $1,620 to a student pursuing higher education.
Scholarship Details
- Open to high school seniors, college undergraduates, and graduate students under the age of 26
- Emphasizes the study of the Mayflower Pilgrims' history and values
- Essay submission required on the topic of the Plymouth founders' financial struggles

Eligibility Criteria
- Must be a high school senior, college undergraduate, or graduate student under the age of 26
- Must have a GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
- Must be a Virginia resident, related to a Virginia resident, related to a member, or a member of the Society of Mayflower Descendants in Virginia
- Must be sponsored by a current teacher, school counselor, or a member of the Virginia Mayflower Society
Application Process
- Submit a brief personal résumé highlighting academic, extracurricular, and volunteer achievements
- Provide a statement detailing future academic plans and how the scholarship will support them
- Submit an official academic transcript covering the preceding three years
- Write and submit a research-based essay (maximum 1,500 words) on the financial struggles of the Plymouth founders and possible solutions
- Include a list of all reference sources, following MLA, APA, or Chicago citation formats (Wikipedia, blogs, and wikis are not accepted)
- Ensure proper spelling and grammar; plagiarism will result in disqualification
- Obtain a sponsor letter from a teacher, school counselor, or Virginia Mayflower Society member
- Submit application materials either in printed form or via email
