Scholarship Description

The Black Teacher Pipeline (BTP) Scholarship is a career development program aimed at supporting aspiring teachers in their career pathway in education. Eligible candidates must be past or current participants in The Center for Black Educator Development’s Freedom Schools Literacy Academy or Liberation Academy. Fellows will receive a scholarship of up to $15,000 over three-years for Sophomores, up to $10,000 over two-years for Juniors, and a one-time award of up to $5,000 for seniors. Upon successfully obtaining a valid teaching certificate and completing four years of teaching, BTP Fellows can earn a stipend towards teacher-related professional development. BTP Fellows are required to participate in UNCF’s academic success coaching and The Center’s apprenticeship programming and career preparation workshops.

Scholarship Criteria: Must be affiliated with the Center for Black Educator Development; Be enrolled at a four-year college or university; Be pursuing a teaching degree/course of study; Be a rising sophomore, junior, or senior; Have a minimum GPA of 2.7 on a 4.0 scale; Have a demonstrated unmet, financial need (verified by your institution).

For Scholarship Renewal: Maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale; Be enrolled full-time at an accredited four-year college or university; Majoring in a teaching degree/course of study; Have a demonstrated unmet financial need as verified by their college or university; Annually participate in at least one of the Center’s Apprenticeship programs. These programs include Freedom Schools Literacy Academy and/or Liberation Academy, Afterschool Tutoring, or Mbongi Facilitation Team. In lieu of participating in the Center’s Apprenticeship program, scholars may participate in other similar experiences with approval from the Grantor; and Complete one (1) Center-sponsored E-learning module and UNCF’s academic and personal success coaching.
