The Susan Fund provides financial and emotional support to those students facing staggering medical costs associated with cancer treatment in addition to the ever-increasing costs of higher education. Applicants must be a current resident of Fairfield County, have been diagnosed with cancer at some time in one's life and be planning/attending an accredited post-high school institution of higher learning. The scholarship amounts are typically between $2,000 and $7,500 (though exact amounts are based on a number of factors, including the financial need of the family, loans outstanding, etc.).
Criteria for considering scholarships include financial status, academic performance, community involvement and an interview. A complete application requires the following: the completed application form; the most current school transcript from high school or college; a current recommendation letter from an employer, school authority or friend (other than a relative); a medical statement describing the diagnosis; and a recent photograph and a signed publicity release.
