In 1993, GFOA's Executive Board voted to create the Minorities in Government Finance Scholarship to recognize and encourage outstanding minority students enrolled in a course of study preparing for a career in state or local government finance. Applicants may be a full-time or part-time minority graduate student or upper level undergraduate student studying public administration, (governmental) accounting, finance, political science, economics, or business administration (with specific focus on government or nonprofit management). A letter of recommendation from someone who can speak to your commitment to the public sector will be required.
GFOA provides several scholarship opportunities for students interested in pursuing a career in state/provincial or local government finance. Encouraging and supporting educational opportunities for future government finance officers are integral to our mission of promoting best practices in local government. GFOA offers numerous scholarships. Students interested in future scholarship opportunities should keep in mind the following: they must be a citizen or permanent resident of the US or Canada, and they must have been a past winner of a GFOA scholarship.
