Scholarship Description

The IHS PhD Scholarship is an award to support PhD students interested in answering important societal questions in order to increase freedom and well-being in our world. To be eligible, you must be enrolled full time in a PhD program and have a research interest that contributes to the advancement of classical liberal scholarship. Qualifying fields of study include economics, political science, philosophy, law, history, sociology, and similar disciplines in the social sciences and humanities. The Humane Studies Fellowship offers three types of support to graduate students, awarded on a rolling basis.

Rooted in the classical liberal tradition, IHS is a non-profit organization that supports the achievement of a freer and more humane society by connecting and supporting graduate students, scholars, and intellectuals who are driving progress in critical conversations shaping the 21st century. We believe that ideas within the classical liberal tradition serve as the foundation for the good society — an intellectually open, tolerant, and pluralistic society — in which individuals and communities thrive in peace, prosperity, and mutual respect.
