The Jean-Pierre Ayala Scholarship was created to support students majoring in Marine or Ocean Sciences. This scholarship rewards young scientists and supports the ongoing expansion of marine studies as an imperative tool in the future of our planet. With water covering 71% of our planet, and 97% of that water coming from our oceans, the importance of taking care of our oceans is clear. The Jean-Pierre Ayala Scholarship awards $1,000.00 annually to two students that have demonstrated commitment to valuing and fostering the betterment of our oceanic environment as reflected in their academic performance and personal activities.
Applicant must be a freshman, sophomore, junior or senior undergraduate, or a graduate student currently enrolled at an accredited college or university. Must carry a minimum of a 3.0 weighted GPA, be majoring in a Marine Sciences, Ocean Studies, Marine Biology, Environmental Science, Ecology, or a similar study and must submit an essay of 500-700 words discussing your involvement with ocean science and/or why you are pursuing an education and career in the field.
