Scholarship Description

The YWCA is on a mission. The mission of the YWCA is to empower women and eliminate racism. YWCA Greater Cincinnati reaches thousands of women, men and their families annually through critically needed programs that include two domestic violence shelters and transitional housing; prevention and intervention services; racial justice initiatives; the Career Women of Achievement Event; and the Mamie Earl Sells Scholarship Fund.

The YWCA Mamie Earl Sells Scholarship Fund was established in 1993 to provide financial assistance and support to an outstanding African-American female Greater Cincinnati high school senior entering a post-secondary institution. Applicants are evaluated on academic record, personal challenges and hardships, ACT and/or SAT scores, letters of recommendation, class rank, honors and awards, involvement in extra-curricular activities and community service and employment history. Dollar amounts for the scholarship will vary.
